Are you using a wordpress.com blog and need to change that blog content to a self hosted domain name?

Many bloggers are willing to improve their blogging and they need a Professional self hosted blog. Even wordpress.com support team has posted information about this fact. Thus I hope this post will help you in making your blog a self hosted blog with wordpress.org script integrated.

There are many ways of transferring a wordpress.com blog to a self hosted wordpress blog. Here are some answers given by few reader’s when I posted this question.

First of all read: support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

You can use the export function and export all the contents out.
You can also export all the links (blogroll) out.
You cannot export a template.
You can get a free version of the template on the net.

Instructions coming … hang in

The theme you choose will have to be capable of running on wordpress software. You can ascertain whether or not this is so or not by contacting the designer of the theme you wish to use. There are hundreds of free wordpress themes available on the internet.

The ones listed at the site called “Free Themes Directory” I will give you the link to are all GPL themes. wordpress.org/extend/themes/

There are also “Commercially Supported GPL Themes” that have full designer support behind them if you don’t mind paying for that.

It is not possible to transfer without a lot of work.
wordpress .com has an export function where you can export all your posts and comments and then import them into your new blog, provided that your new blogging platform has an import function. Images and/or other media will not be exported and must be moved manually by uploading theme again and changing the links accordingly. The theme or template will not be exported, only the post contents. No sidebar content will be exported either.

I found the best way is to FTP it from your hard drive. This is easy of course if your using the WP platform to start and moving to your own self host. As far as Blogger is concerned click the Export Blog button. Your blog will be stored as a Blogger export file (.xml) file which can be kept as a backup on your hard drive. Which is an RSS format.

I am thinking about moving my blog from .com to .org. Given that I’ve got some followers who get notified about new posts using a news reader, what’s the best way of managing that transition?
