wordpress-300×282.png” alt=”make wordpress a website” width=”300″ height=”282″ />Well, Have you ever thought of a state where your blog’s homepage and posts are not indexed by Search engines? Not at all Right? This is a problem faced
But this will happen if there is a nofollow, noindex meta data for your blog. So, there will not be any search engine traffic for your blog.
Why it happen so?
By adding a nofollow noindex meta tag in your wordpress, your blog becomes private. Thus Search engines has no permission to index your blog and your blog will not get any search engine visibility. So No use of this tag unless your blog is private.
Most of the Time, this tag automatically comes when we install wordpress. It happens because of 2 problems, either you have inserted a noindex nofollow meta data in your PHP script or you made your blog private using the wordpress Privacy options.
How to Remove it?
-
Step 1 – Removing from PHP
Just go to appearance – Editor and select Header.php. There you may see a lots of meta tags. Check whether a nofollow noindex attribute is placed there. All you have to do is to Remove it!
It will almost look like this: Robots: noindex, nofollow
-
Change the Privacy Settings
While installing the wordpress script, most often the privacy settings may differ from the normal one. So make sure that your Privacy settings are selected correctly.
If it is like: I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors
Select: I would like my blog to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Sphere, Technorati) and archivers
So Don’t be afraid if your Blog is not getting indexed by Google. Just check whether your blog’s meta data has a nofollow noindex attribute. If yes, Remove it by using the steps I mentioned above.

Hi Jijo,
Great article! It’s so important to make sure that this advice is followed… so many people start blogs to get free search engine traffic but if these default settings are not changed it’s all a waste of time.
Thanks I did not know that “noindex nofollow” was hidden in the privacy settings.
I have been reading your posts lately, just want to say thanks for all informative stuff i have found here, helped me learn alot lately.
Much Regards, Mark
